The Great Escape UK – the third UK escape room unconference

The Great Escape UK topic board

The third UK unconference is set to take place next Tuesday (6th September), heading back to Leeds but this time taking place at Dock 29, just round the corner from the Code-X escape room. If the prospect of a full day talking about escape rooms isn’t enough to tempt you, perhaps the opportunity to play a game just before/after will tip the balance – there’s still availability for the 10am and 8pm bookings if you fancy heading over and taking in a game just outside the 11am-7pm schedule. The previous event in London was well attended from across the country and this round looks set to be equally popular. The gathering is open to owners, designers, enthusiasts and anyone involved in the industry and tickets cost £28 per person. The previous event sold out so if you’re interested in going you should probably book your ticket asap.

For a more detailed description, here’s the blurb from the booking site:

This third meet-up for the UK Escape Room Industry welcomes anyone involved in running, designing, or creating Escape Room Games in the UK, or associated industries. We also welcome keen players, as long as they promise not to rip out the fixtures and fittings in search of clues. We also allow suppliers to attend in the spirit of sharing not selling. ((…))

Our quarterly Unconference returns to Leeds. Everyone can propose a session on the day, on anything they like, people signup for whatever tickles their fancy, then the agenda is decided as we go along. ((…))

Some offerings include a report back from the first Chicago Escape Room Conference, and an offering (from me) on Curiosity and Player Motivation and how it impacts Room Design – a summary of a week-long symposium on Game Design at Utrecht University (actually more fun than it sounds).

Unfortunately this site won’t be in attendance but looks forward to hearing from attendees!
